Senate Unanimously Rejects India’s Attempt to Link Pakistan to Pahalgam Attack
Islamabad – April 25, 2025
The Senate of Pakistan on Friday unanimously passed a resolution strongly condemning India’s attempt to implicate Pakistan in the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, Indian-occupied Kashmir, which left at least 26 people dead and 17 injured.
The resolution, presented by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, denounced India’s “baseless allegations” and warned that any aggression — including water terrorism or military provocation — would be met with a firm and swift response.
The Senate asserted that the orchestrated campaign by New Delhi follows a familiar pattern of politicizing terrorism for domestic gains. The resolution further rejected any efforts to link Pakistan with the April 22nd attack and criticized India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it an act of war and a violation of international law.
Senators Speak Out
Senator Sherry Rehman issued a strong warning to India during the session, stating:
“You tested it out after Pulwama. Had Pakistan’s tea. We still have water — we’ll mix it with milk and serve you tea,”
She also condemned India’s repeated attempts to militarize the region, saying:
“You have an obsession with Pakistan. We certainly do not have any obsession with you.”
Rehman reminded the house that Pakistan’s nuclear capability was a direct result of repeated Indian aggression and emphasized that peace remains Pakistan’s priority — but not at the cost of sovereignty.
National Security Committee’s Stand
A day earlier, Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) advised India to end its “reflexive blame game” and warned against further politicization of such incidents.
Escalating Tensions
In response to the attack, India unilaterally suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan, and shut its borders — all without presenting any evidence for Islamabad’s involvement in the attack.
The Senate reiterated Pakistan’s right to self-defense, citing its strong response during the February 2019 Balakot crisis, and urged the international community to hold India accountable for its own acts of cross-border aggression and espionage.
The resolution concluded with a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
