CM Maryam Nawaz Orders Province-Wide Roti Price Cut Amid Falling Flour Costs
In a decisive move to ease the burden of food inflation on the public, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to immediately reduce the price of roti (bread) across the province. The decision follows a noticeable decrease in flour prices in recent weeks.
While presiding over a high-level meeting focused on commodity pricing, the chief minister instructed the Price Control Department to ensure that the drop in flour costs is promptly reflected in the retail price of roti. She emphasized that this benefit must directly reach the common citizens, particularly low-income households.
“Roti must be made affordable for every household. The revised price should clearly reflect the reduction in flour costs,” said CM Maryam Nawaz. “We aim to bring the price of bread down to the lowest level in history.”
Expressing strong concern over the rising prices of everyday food items, she called for intensified vigilance on essential commodities including chicken, vegetables, and pulses. The CM voiced particular frustration over the increasing cost of poultry.
“The poor used to feed their children chicken at least once a week. If it becomes too expensive, even that luxury will disappear — and I will not allow that to happen,” she remarked.
To ensure compliance, Maryam Nawaz ordered officials to step up monitoring across all markets in Punjab. She also directed them to take firm action against hoarders and profiteers exploiting the situation for personal gain.
Reaffirming her government’s commitment to social welfare, the chief minister stated that protecting the underprivileged from the adverse effects of inflation remains a top priority.
“Our administration stands with the people. We will not allow inflation to rob families of their basic right to affordable food.”
This development signals a broader effort by the Punjab government to stabilize prices and enhance food security amid economic challenges.
