Four Terrorists Killed in Rawalakot Operation; Two Police Officers Martyred
In a high-stakes counterterrorism operation, four wanted terrorists were killed in the forested Hussain Kot area of Rawalakot, Poonch District. The joint mission was carried out by the police and other law enforcement agencies following credible intelligence about militant activity in the region.
According to SSP Poonch Riaz Mughal, the terrorists were hiding in a cave and were believed to be planning terrorist attacks in Azad Kashmir. The operation, launched late Wednesday night, turned into a fierce gun battle after one of the militants threw a hand grenade during the attempted raid.
“Based on solid intelligence, we surrounded the suspects in the forest. A grenade attack by one of the terrorists injured one of their own and a police officer,” SSP Mughal revealed during a late-night press conference.
The gunfight that followed led to the elimination of all four militants, who were reportedly involved in several murder and terrorism cases. However, the operation came at a heavy cost — two police officers were martyred and at least 20 others, including law enforcement personnel, sustained injuries.
“We lost two brave officers in the line of duty. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten,” SSP Mughal stated solemnly.
The fallen officers were hailed for their courage and dedication, while the wounded were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Security has since been tightened in the region, and further operations are expected to ensure the complete eradication of militant elements.
This operation underscores the growing threat of terrorism in Azad Kashmir and the ongoing efforts by security forces to neutralize such threats before they reach urban centers.
