Veteran Actress Ayesha Khan Passes Away at 77 in Karachi
Legendary Pakistani television actress Ayesha Khan was found dead at the age of 77 in her apartment located in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, authorities confirmed on Thursday evening.
According to police, her body was discovered following reports from neighbors who had noticed a strong odor coming from the flat. Investigations suggest that the actress may have passed away several days earlier, possibly while in the bathroom.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for initial legal proceedings before being transferred to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth. Police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed that a post-mortem has not yet been conducted, pending the arrival of her son from out of town.
Ayesha Khan had been living alone, with none of her children residing in Karachi. Authorities have ruled out foul play, and further examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Born in 1948, Ayesha Khan was a trailblazing figure in the early era of Pakistan Television (PTV). She gained national fame for her compelling performances and portrayal of strong, emotionally layered female characters, earning a respected place in the country’s cultural history. She was also the elder sister of late actress Khalida Riasat, another celebrated name in the industry.
President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Ahmed Shah, expressed his condolences, calling her death “a profound loss to Pakistan’s drama industry.” He praised her dedication to the craft and her significant contributions to shaping television storytelling in the country.
Her funeral details will be announced once her family arrives and final arrangements are made.
