Youth Urged to Lead Climate Action at Four-Day Workshop in Thatta

Jun 28, 2025

A four-day Youth Leadership for Climate Change workshop kicked off on June 24 at Makli Ghunghat Khana in Thatta, bringing together young changemakers to champion environmental sustainability and climate adaptation strategies.

Organised by the Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) under the umbrella of the Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative (PYLI) and supported by the British Council Pakistan, the event featured 34 emerging climate leaders, including 11 young women. Participants engaged in comprehensive training sessions on climate resilience, youth leadership, and locally-driven adaptation plans.

A key highlight of the event was the Youth-Led Action (YLA) Showcasing Event, where previously trained PYLI youth presented community-driven climate solutions via interactive booths, discussions, and model demonstrations. These showcased how grassroots innovation can combat climate challenges, particularly in vulnerable coastal communities.

On the third day, a high-level delegation from the British Council — including Regional Director Helen Silvester and Country Director James Hampson — visited the venue to observe the training and interact directly with the youth leaders. Their presence underscored the international importance of empowering young people in climate action, especially those from climate-vulnerable areas like coastal Sindh.

The workshop aims to equip youth with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to lead environmental initiatives and create sustainable, community-based climate responses.
