Body of Missing Cab Driver Recovered from Soan River After Flood Tragedy
RAWALPINDI:
The body of Hussain Muawiya, a cab driver who went missing after his car was swept away by floodwaters during heavy rainfall earlier this week, was recovered from the Soan River near Dhok Bawa, located between the Rawat and Saddar Bairuni police jurisdictions.
Hussain had disappeared on Wednesday morning when a schoolteacher from Afshan Colony booked his cab via an online ride-hailing service. As torrential rains lashed the city, the vehicle was caught in a flash flood near Lane 4, Westridge, and was swept into a stormwater drain.
The teacher’s body was discovered near Bhosa Godam under the jurisdiction of Ratta Amral police, while the car was later found partially submerged and damaged near the original incident site. However, Hussain remained missing despite extensive efforts by Rescue 1122 and Westridge police.
After a two-day search operation, his body was finally located downstream in the Soan River. His identity was confirmed by relatives through a thread bracelet on his wrist and his distinctive bearded face.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the city’s vulnerability to urban flooding and the risks faced by commuters during extreme weather events.
