PM Shehbaz Launches Apna Meter, Apni Reading

Jun 29, 2025

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a new mobile application, Apna Meter, Apni Reading, aimed at increasing transparency and empowering electricity consumers in Pakistan. The app allows users to photograph and submit their electricity meter reading directly, ensuring more accurate monthly bills and minimizing overbilling.

Speaking at the launch ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister called it a “revolutionary reform” in the energy sector. The app is available in five local languages to promote inclusivity and will be rolled out nationwide—from Peshawar to Karachi.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized ongoing reforms in the power sector, including revamping DISCOS boards, tackling power theft, and settling circular debt. He announced the removal of the PTV fee from electricity bills as an added relief measure for citizens.

Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari noted that overbilling has been a persistent problem, but this new app—developed by the Power Division—will help restore public trust. Consumers can now track and archive their usage, while the system prioritizes the lower reading if discrepancies arise between user and meter reader submissions.

The initiative particularly benefits subsidy-eligible consumers by helping them retain benefits through timely self-readings. It’s a significant step toward digital governance and improved accountability in Pakistan’s energy sector.
