12 Dead, 8 Injured in Rain-Related Accidents Across Pakistan Amid Monsoon Downpour

Jun 29, 2025

At least 12 people lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Karachi, Lahore, and Ziarat over the past two days, as heavy monsoon rains continue to cause havoc across Pakistan. In Karachi, roof collapses in Lyari and Manzoor Colony claimed the lives of a father and daughter, and a child, respectively, while five others were injured. Additionally, five men were electrocuted in various areas of the city, including New Karachi, SITE Area, Surjani Town, Golimar, and Korangi.

In Lahore’s Sharifpura locality, two people died and one was injured in a similar roof collapse. Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Ziarat district, two women were swept away by floodwaters while crossing a stream near Zarrgai Dam.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 63 people were injured and 63 homes damaged in the recent wave of rain between June 26 and 28. Around 30 cattle also perished. Heavy rainfall and flash floods since the start of the monsoon season have killed 32 people, including 16 children, across Pakistan, with Swat Valley and Punjab among the worst-hit regions.

The NDMA has warned of continued risk of heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding until at least Tuesday. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments and rescue agencies, especially in vulnerable upper regions, and to issue weather alerts to the public via mobile messages.

With Pakistan increasingly affected by extreme weather patterns due to climate change, authorities are under pressure to improve disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
