
Electricity: Average reduction in basic tariff by Rs. 1.14

Islamabad: Nepra has issued a decision to reduce the basic electricity prices by an average of Rs 1.14 per unit, however, lifeline consumers will be deprived of this relief. The decision has been sent to the federal government for notification.
According to the audit report, the rates for consumers consuming up to 100 units of electricity have been fixed at Rs 10.54 per unit, while for consumers consuming 101 to 200 units, the rates have been fixed at Rs 13.01 per unit.
For non-protected consumers, the rates are Rs. 22.44 per unit for 100 units, Rs. 28.91 per unit for 101 to 200 units, and Rs. 33.10 per unit for 201 to 300 units. Non-protected TOU consumers using more than 300 units will pay Rs. 41.78 per unit.
According to the decision of NEPRA, electricity rates for commercial consumers have been set at Rs 45.43 per unit, for general services consumers at Rs 43.17 per unit, for industrial consumers at Rs 33.48 per unit, for agricultural consumers at Rs 30.75 per unit and for bulk consumers at Rs 41.76 per unit.
According to NEPRA, the aim of the price reduction is to provide relief to consumers, however, the category of lifeline consumers will not fall under the purview of this decision.
