Amal Clooney Enforces No-Phone Rule at Home to Protect Family Privacy
Amal Clooney has shared a thoughtful parenting approach she maintains at home—a strict no-phone rule aimed at preserving her family’s privacy and encouraging meaningful in-person interaction.
In a recent interview with Glamour, the renowned international human rights lawyer revealed that she now collects phones from guests and family members alike during gatherings at her home, which she shares with husband George Clooney and their eight-year-old twins.
“Creating private moments and spaces is becoming increasingly difficult,” Amal explained. “But that’s also why we entertain a lot at home.” Laughing, she added, “I now have a phone basket that I use to take everyone’s phones away!”
The policy, while lighthearted in tone, carries a serious purpose. According to Amal, it helps foster genuine connections and ensures that their home remains a sanctuary for open and sincere conversations. “It’s important to get that balance where you have time alone with your family and with your friends where people feel like you can have a safe and frank exchange,” she said.
Amal also spoke candidly about how becoming a mother has deepened her concerns about privacy. Living under intense public scrutiny, she and George have made a conscious decision to shield their children from the limelight. “Becoming a parent means you’re more troubled by some of the intrusions,” she noted. “So, we do the best we can to minimize any impact on our children. We’ve never put their photo out there or anything like that.”
Her husband, George Clooney, has expressed similar sentiments in previous interviews. Speaking to PEOPLE, the actor reflected on how family life has changed him: “In marriage, and now with the kids, you give away the selfishness of only looking out for yourself. It’s a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. We feel so lucky.”
