Trump Blasts Elon Musk’s New Political Party as ‘Ridiculous’ Amid Escalating Feud
July 7, 2025 — Former U.S. President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing rebuke of Elon Musk on Sunday, calling the tech mogul’s newly launched “America Party” a “ridiculous” idea and branding Musk a “TRAIN WRECK” who has gone “off the rails.”
The comments mark a dramatic escalation in tensions between the two former allies, once politically aligned during Musk’s tenure as head of Trump’s cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One at his New Jersey golf club, Trump dismissed the notion of a third party outright:
“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party. It’s always been a two-party system… Third parties have never worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous,” Trump said.
Musk’s ‘America Party’ Challenges Two-Party System
Musk announced his intent to form the America Party on Saturday, aiming to disrupt what he labeled a “one-party system” dominated by excessive spending and corruption.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted on X, the platform he owns.
Musk has pledged to oppose any lawmaker—Democrat or Republican—who supported Trump’s signature domestic spending bill, which he argues would explode the U.S. national debt.
However, details about the party’s structure or registration remain unclear, raising questions about whether it can mount a serious political challenge before the 2026 midterm elections.
From Allies to Rivals
Once closely allied, Trump and Musk’s relationship soured after Musk left DOGE in May to return to his corporate roles amid growing tension over the administration’s spending policies.
Musk had received a “golden key” to the White House during his departure ceremony, appearing with a mysterious black eye, which sparked widespread speculation at the time.
Since then, the two have exchanged increasingly bitter public insults. On Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social mid-flight to double down:
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”
“The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats,” he added.
Trump also suggested Musk’s opposition may be tied to provisions in the spending bill that cut subsidies for electric vehicles, impacting Tesla directly. Musk, however, insists his concerns are rooted in fiscal responsibility, not corporate interests.
Administration Responds
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also offered subtle criticism of Musk on CNN, stating:
“I believe the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone… not focus on political activities.”
The latest chapter in this public feud could have serious implications for Republican unity ahead of the midterms, with Musk’s political ambitions potentially splintering conservative voters.
As for whether Trump will demand the return of Musk’s golden key? The former president declined to comment.
