
India: 10 killed as part of bridge collapses in Gujarat, vehicles fall into river
Ten people have died after a section of the Gambhira bridge in the Indian state of Gujarat collapsed.
According to Indian media, a section of a bridge in Gujarat collapsed while vehicles were moving on it, causing several vehicles to fall into the river.
Indian media reports that rescue operations have been launched at the scene of the accident after receiving information about the incident and so far 10 people have been confirmed dead.
According to the NDTV report, the bridge is 40 years old and the accident occurred on Wednesday morning due to traffic. Rescue personnel have so far rescued only 3 people while the search for the rest is ongoing.
According to Indian media reports, local residents say that the dilapidated condition of the bridge has been evident for some time, but the authorities have not listened to requests for repairs.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered the Road and Building Department to immediately investigate the accident.
