ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad has ordered YouTube to block 27 popular channels accused of spreading anti-state content. The Federal Investigation (FIA) filed the request, claiming these channels were sharing misleading and harmful material that could incite public unrest or damage national interests.

The case was heard by Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, who reviewed the evidence submitted by the FIA. According to the court order, the FIA had launched an inquiry on June 2 and provided sufficient proof to justify action. The court noted that it was satisfied with the investigation’s findings.

Following the hearing, the court directed YouTube’s local officer-in-charge to immediately block access to the 27 channels. The order underlined the importance of acting swiftly to prevent the spread of false or inflammatory narratives online. Although the specific names of the channels were not revealed in public documents, they are believed to have large followings.

The court also stated that legal frameworks allow action in such cases when national unity or public order is at risk. It emphasized that while freedom of expression is important, it must not be abused to promote hate or misinformation. The court’s decision reflects a growing concern about digital disinformation and cyber propaganda in Pakistan.

This move signals a tightening of government oversight over digital platforms and online content creators. It also serves as a warning to other influencers and YouTubers to comply with local laws. The FIA now has the court’s backing to take further legal steps if necessary.
