Sindh Culture Department Steps In to Arrange Humaira Asghar’s Burial

Jul 10, 2025

KARACHI – July 11:
The Sindh Culture Department has officially stepped forward to arrange the funeral and burial of late actress Humaira Asghar Ali, whose body was discovered in an advanced decomposed state earlier this week at her apartment in Karachi’s Defence area.

The tragic case took a painful turn after Humaira’s family refused to accept her body following the post-mortem. Police investigations suggest that her body may have been lying untouched for several months.

In a notification issued Thursday, Sindh Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah expressed grief over the incident and emphasized that Humaira’s contributions to the arts and culture deserved respectful recognition.

“In light of this situation and considering her contributions to the arts and culture of the country, the Culture Department is willing to take responsibility for her burial arrangements with respect and in a dignified manner,” the letter addressed to South DIG read.

The notification authorizes Director-General Culture Munawar Mahesar to carry out all necessary legal formalities for transferring and burying the body.

This action follows widespread calls from the entertainment industry to ensure a proper farewell for Humaira. Actors Sonya Hussyn, Yasir Hussain, and Yashma Gill had earlier requested the authorities to allow them to perform her last rites, expressing heartbreak over the family’s refusal.

The move by the Sindh Cultural Department has been widely praised as a dignified and compassionate step, ensuring the late actress is remembered and laid to rest with honour.

Further details regarding the funeral arrangements are expected to be released after completion of legal procedures.
