SHO, Investigation Officer Suspended Over Custodial Death in Tarnol

Jul 11, 2025

Islamabad – July 11, 2025: In a troubling development, Station House Officer (SHO) Tarnol Shaukat Abbasi and the investigation officer have been suspended following the mysterious death of an accused in police custody at the Tarnol Police Station, Islamabad.

According to police sources, the deceased, identified as Noman, was an absconder who had been detained by the police. His sudden death while in custody has sparked serious concerns and prompted an internal investigation.

In response to the incident, Police Sub-Inspector Ishtiaq Shah has been appointed as the new SHO of Tarnol, replacing the suspended officer.

Investigation Underway
The Islamabad Police have launched an internal inquiry to determine the cause of death and whether any custodial torture or negligence occurred.

“If the SHO or the investigating officer is found responsible, strict legal action will be taken,” said a police spokesperson.

Authorities have pledged full transparency in the probe and assured the public that accountability will be ensured.

Public Concern Over Custodial Deaths
This incident has once again raised questions about custodial safety and police conduct in detention facilities. Human rights activists and legal experts have long called for better monitoring mechanisms and stricter enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during police investigations.

The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the results will play a crucial role in determining the exact cause of death.
