Ship carrying aid from Gallipoli heads to Gaza
Gallipoli: (Web Desk, News Agency) Another boat of social workers from Italy has set sail for Gaza carrying aid supplies. Another boat of social workers from the Italian island of Sicily has set sail for Gaza carrying food, medicine and other aid supplies.
At the time of departure, there were dozens of people at the port of Siracusa, holding Palestinian flags and wearing keffiyehs. All of them said goodbye to the ship, chanting “Free Palestine.”
According to the report, the boat will cover a distance of about 1,800 kilometers and it could take a week to reach Gaza. The boat will stop at the southern Italian city of Gallipoli on the way, where two French members of parliament will also board the boat.
It should be noted that this boat has left 6 weeks after the previous ship, the ‘Madeleine’, which left for Gaza. The aid-laden ship, the Madeleine, was attacked by Israeli forces 185 kilometers off the coast of Gaza and the people on board were detained.
According to the report, the Israeli army has blocked the access of aid to Gaza for more than 4 months and dozens of children have lost their lives due to severe food shortages.
Yesterday, Palestinian authorities warned that approximately 650,000 children are at serious risk of famine and malnutrition due to the ongoing siege and severe shortage of humanitarian aid in the area.
