Transporters Call Nationwide Wheel-Jam Strike on July 19 Over Tax Hike
Islamabad – July 16, 2025: The Pakistan Transport Council (PTC) has announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike on July 19, protesting what it terms as unjust and excessive taxation on the transport sector.
In a press statement, PTC President Tanveer Ahmad Jutt declared that transporters across the country will halt operations indefinitely until the federal government withdraws the recently imposed 6% tax on transport businesses.
“The transport industry has been pushed to the wall. Our patience has run out,” Jutt stated. “We will not tolerate these anti-business policies and irresponsible governance any longer.”
He also blamed the current government’s “flawed economic strategies” for the collapse of Pakistan’s import and export sectors, warning that the transport industry is now facing a similar fate.
Jutt assured that the transport community stands united with traders and other stakeholders in the business sector, vowing unwavering support until their collective demands are met.
The protest is expected to cause significant disruption to goods transport, passenger travel, and supply chains nationwide, if a resolution is not reached before the announced strike date.
