Pakistan: Monsoon rains, 266 people killed, 633 injured

Islamabad: The ongoing monsoon rains have taken a devastating toll across Pakistan, with at least 266 people reported dead and 633 injured due to rain-related incidents. The casualties have occurred as a result of flash floods, house collapses, lightning strikes, and other rain-triggered accidents.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the heaviest losses have been recorded in Balochistan, Sindh, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where torrential downpours have led to widespread flooding and destruction of infrastructure.

Thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed, and dozens of roads remain blocked due to landslides and waterlogging. Rescue and relief operations are underway, with the army, local authorities, and volunteers working to evacuate affected residents and deliver aid.

The government has issued warnings urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and to remain vigilant during the continued spell of heavy rains forecast in several regions.

Officials fear the death toll may rise as more reports pour in from remote and inaccessible areas.
