Tensions Flare as US, China Trade Barbs on Ukraine in UN Meeting

Jul 27, 2025

NEW YORK: US and Chinese delegates exchanged bitter words at a UN Security Council meeting on the Ukraine issue.

US acting ambassador Dorothy Shea accused China and other countries of supplying Russia with goods that further strengthen its military-industrial complex. She demanded that China immediately stop supplying goods that could aid Russian aggression.

To this, China’s deputy envoy Geng Shuang reacted strongly, saying that China is not a party to the Ukraine conflict, nor has it ever supplied weapons to Russia or Ukraine.

He added that the United States is fueling conflicts by blaming others, while China has always been a supporter of peace.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also said in a statement last week that China completely rejects “illegal unilateral sanctions” and attempts by the United States to control foreign countries.

The tensions have escalated at a time when the impact of the Ukraine war is having a profound impact on global politics, and the United States is pressuring all of its economic allies, including China, to isolate Russia.
