Brampton Landlord Seeks Eviction as Tenant Accused of $23,000 in Unpaid Rent
Brampton, Ontario,A tenant who claimed to earn $120,000 a year as an online content creator is scheduled to appear before Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) on April 9, accused of failing to pay rent and utilities for nearly a year.
Ramanpreet Singh, the tenant’s current landlord, says she paid only the first and last month’s rent deposit when she moved into his Brampton townhouse in April 2025. Since then, Singh claims, the tenant has made no further payments and refuses to vacate the property.
Singh estimates that the tenant owes over $23,000, forcing him to cover rent, utilities, the mortgage, and family expenses out of his own pocket. “I can’t sleep at night, my health is affected,” he told CBC Toronto. “I don’t know how I’m going to feed my kids.”
CBC Toronto attempted to contact the tenant for comment but was unsuccessful, and is therefore not identifying her.
In Ontario, only the Landlord and Tenant Board can order an eviction. Singh applied for an eviction order in September 2025. The LTB could require the tenant to pay her back rent and could also order her eviction.
The landlord described the experience as financially and emotionally draining. “I’m planning to sell,” he said. “It’s been a horrible experience for me; I don’t think I’m going to rent to anyone in the future.”
