Embassy of Japan Hosts Cultural Exchange Program for NUML Islamabad Students
Islamabad, October 2, 2025 — The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan organized a special cultural exchange event for students from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, who are currently studying the Japanese language. The event aimed to promote mutual understanding, encourage youth engagement, and strengthen cultural ties between Japan and Pakistan.

Held at the Embassy premises, the program provided students with an immersive experience of Japanese traditions and lifestyle through three interactive sessions.
The first session focused on *traditional Japanese attire, where students were introduced to the *Yukata, a casual summer kimono. A live demonstration showcased how the garment is worn, allowing participants to gain firsthand insight into the cultural significance and etiquette associated with Japanese clothing.

In the second session, students participated in a *Japanese calligraphy workshop, exploring the art of *Shodō. Under guidance, they practiced writing Kanji characters using traditional brushes and ink, gaining a deeper appreciation for the aesthetics and discipline of Japanese writing.
The final session was both educational and entertaining, highlighting chopstick etiquette. Students learned the proper way to handle chopsticks and then took part in a fun skill-based challenge. A mini-tournament was held, with top performers receiving commemorative gifts in recognition of their efforts.

The Embassy expressed that the initiative reflects Japan’s commitment to nurturing grassroots cultural exchange and fostering meaningful connections between the people of both nations—particularly the younger generation.
The participating students expressed great enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to engage with Japanese culture in an interactive and welcoming setting.
