Jemima fined for UK traffic law violation

(Web Desk) – Jemima Goldsmith, a British-born journalist and the former spouse of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been ordered to pay a £1,000 fine after being found guilty of speeding in the United Kingdom.

The 52 year old was convicted at Westminster Magistrates’ Court after failing to respond to a notice from the Metropolitan Police within the legal deadline, resulting in a prosecution under UK traffic law.

According to court documents, the offence occurred when a Mini Clubman registered to Goldsmith was recorded exceeding the speed limit on a north London road.

Goldsmith did not provide details of the driver in time, prompting the case to be decided under the Single Justice Procedure.

The magistrate imposed a £1,000 fine, six penalty points on her driving licence, and ordered her to pay additional costs and a victim surcharge, underscoring the consequences of failing to meet legal requirements for identifying drivers in the UK.

In her written explanation to the court, Goldsmith said that ongoing major renovation work at her Kensington property led to important letters from the police being misplaced by builders, and that she only became aware of the speeding notice months later.
