On Friday, the 44-year-old Skims founder announced that her documentary Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar will finally get a US release on Fox Nation, nearly a year after its BBC debut. But fans couldn’t help noticing the timing — the news dropped on the same day Taylor Swift, 35, released a track dedicated to the late Hollywood legend on her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
The coincidence sparked an online frenzy. “Kim knows what she’s doing,” one Reddit user wrote. “She’s trying to say she owns Elizabeth Taylor, not Missy Swift.” Another fan on X posted: “Same-day twist! Kim drops Liz doc as Taylor sings about her — definitely not an accident.”
However, a source told Daily Mail that Kardashian had no control over the timing, saying Fox Nation decided the announcement date.
The three-part documentary, set to premiere on October 6, features interviews with Dame Joan Collins, Sharon Stone, Paris Jackson, and Chris Wilding, Taylor’s son. Kardashian, who conducted Taylor’s final interview before her death in 2011, also co-produced the project.
Meanwhile, Swift’s new song — the second track on her album — compares her own fame and relationships to those of Taylor, the two-time Oscar-winning actress known for Cleopatra and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. In the lyrics, Swift laments how fame affects love, singing:

Fans believe the verse may reference her fiancé Travis Kelce, while other lines, mentioning “white diamonds” and “violet eyes” , nod directly to Taylor’s legacy.
The synchronised releases reignited talk of the longstanding feud between Swift and Kardashian, dating back to Kanye West’s infamous 2009 VMAs interruption and resurfacing in 2016 over West’s controversial lyrics about Swift.
Though it remains unclear whether Friday’s timing was planned or coincidental, one thing is certain: both women have found inspiration in Elizabeth Taylor, and once again, their names are trending side by side.
