Major roads in Karachi closed ahead of possible protests

Authorities in Karachi have closed several major roads as a precautionary measure amid fears of protests following the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in US-Iran airstrikes.

Key road closures and diversions

According to traffic police:

  • Both roads leading to and from Sultanabad Traffic Section towards Mai Kolachi have been blocked.
  • Roads from MT Khan Road towards Jinnah Bridge are closed.
  • The route from PIDC to Jinnah Bridge has also been shut.

Traffic diversions include:

  • Vehicles coming from Jinnah Bridge are being redirected towards I.I. Chundrigar Road.
  • Traffic from Boat Basin is being sent for a U-turn at Mai Kolachi Phatak and redirected back.
  • Vehicles from PIDC are being turned back at Park Cut.

Shahrah-e-Faisal restrictions

  • The stretch of Shahrah-e-Faisal from FTC to Metro Pole has been barricaded.
  • The road near FTC has remained closed since the previous day.
  • Traffic heading toward FTC is being diverted toward Saddar via the Gorakhpur cemetery area for a U-turn.

Officials say the closures are preventive steps to maintain law and order. Commuters have been advised to plan alternative routes and expect delays in affected areas.
