Rawalpindi/Islamabad – The Pakistan Army has delivered a significant blow to the Afghan Taliban’s military apparatus, destroying the brigade headquarters of the 205 Corps in Kandahar during a targeted strike on Thursday, as Operation Ghazab Lil Haq intensifies across the border.
Security sources confirmed that the operation also targeted ammunition depots belonging to the Afghan Taliban, causing substantial damage to their military infrastructure and logistics capabilities.
Rising Toll
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar provided updated figures on the campaign’s impact, stating that since the commencement of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq:
- 481 operatives of the Afghan Taliban regime have been killed
- 226 checkpoints destroyed
- 35 checkpoints captured by Pakistani forces
Security officials confirmed that the armed forces are continuing effective ground and aerial operations against Afghan Taliban fighters and groups designated as Fitna al-Khawarij—the term authorities use for banned militant organizations.
Bagram Air Base Strike
In a significant development, reports emerged that Pakistan has also carried out a successful strike on the strategically important Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan as part of the ongoing operation.
The air base, located approximately 40 kilometers north of Kabul, has historically been one of Afghanistan’s largest military installations and holds considerable strategic value. The strike, if confirmed, would represent a major expansion of the operation’s geographic scope.
Operation Context
The intensified military campaign follows weeks of heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with Islamabad accusing the Afghan Taliban regime of providing sanctuary and support to militants responsible for cross-border attacks inside Pakistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly demanded that Kabul prevent its territory from being used for terrorism against Pakistan, warning that failure to do so would invite sustained military action.
The operation, named “Ghazab Lil Haq” (Wrath for the Truth), targets militant infrastructure and leadership positions across the border, with military officials stating that the campaign will continue until verifiable guarantees against terrorism facilitation are provided by the Afghan Taliban regime.
Strategic Implications
The destruction of the Kandahar corps headquarters represents a significant escalation in Pakistan’s cross-border operations. The 205 Corps, also known as the “Al-Badr Corps,” is one of the Afghan Taliban’s major military formations, responsible for operations in southern Afghanistan.
Analysts suggest the strike sends a clear message that Pakistan is prepared to target high-value military assets to degrade the Taliban’s capacity to support anti-Pakistan militant groups.
