Philippine lawmakers set to vote on Marcos impeachment

Feb 10, 2026

MANILA: Philippine lawmakers were set to vote on Tuesday on whether to impeach President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is accused of violating the constitution, graft and corruption, and betraying the ‌public’s trust.
Impeaching ‌Marcos would need ‌a one-third vote in favour among the lower house of parliament’s more than 300 members.
The House justice committee last week found two impeachment complaints ‌as lacking in ‍substance.
Complaints ‍against Marcos included ‍his decision to allow his predecessor Rodrigo Duterte to be arrested and taken to The Hague.
Marcos was also accused of abusing his power in spending public funds that led to a corruption scandal involving flood-control projects.
His alleged drug use, which he has denied, also made him unfit to run the country, ‌according to one of the complaints.
