
PM Shehbaz meets Russia’s Putin in Beijing, receives SCO summit invitation
BEIJING (Web News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, where discussions focused on bilateral ties and regional cooperation.
The meeting marked another step in Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen relations with Russia, with both leaders exchanging views on economic collaboration, trade, and peace in the region.
During the talks, Shehbaz Sharif emphasised Pakistan’s desire to expand ties with Russia across multiple sectors. He noted that bilateral relations had grown stronger with time and expressed his ambition to elevate them further. The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability, stating that peace and prosperity were essential for progress.
Regional cooperation
Addressing President Putin directly, he remarked that Russia could play a pivotal role in advancing development within the region.
In response, President Putin underscored Russia’s friendly ties with Pakistan. He expressed his condolences over the devastation caused by recent floods in Pakistan, noting Russia’s solidarity with the country during such challenges. He reiterated Moscow’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Islamabad, particularly through platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
SCO summit invitation
Putin extended a formal invitation to Shehbaz Sharif to participate in the upcoming SCO leaders’ summit. The prime minister welcomed the gesture warmly, thanking the Russian president and expressing his eagerness to visit Russia in the future.
Pakistan-Russia ties
The exchange between the two leaders in Beijing reinforced a growing sense of partnership between Pakistan and Russia. With trade and energy opportunities on the agenda, both sides acknowledged the potential to raise their bilateral relationship to new heights while jointly supporting peace and development across the region.
