RCMP Investigates Threats Against Families Following Tumbler Ridge Mass Shooting

Tumbler Ridge, B.C.,The B.C. RCMP is investigating reports of threats against the family of one of the victims of the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge on February 10. Authorities confirmed that a safety plan is in place for the family and the community while the investigation continues. RCMP officers have coordinated with the mayor and local leaders to ensure ongoing public safety.

The threats prompted the cancellation of a private funeral for 12-year-old Kylie Smith, which had been scheduled for Saturday. According to a statement shared online by the family, police are assisting them and the family expressed regret for having to cancel the service.

The statement also noted that they are not the only victims’ family experiencing harassment or threats, claiming that at least three families of the deceased have faced similar incidents.

Police declined to comment on threats against other families, stating they do not have additional information at this time. The RCMP continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as the investigation proceeds.
