Dubai/Islamabad: A Pakistani national was killed late on Saturday night when “debris from an aerial interception” fell onto a vehicle in Dubai’s Al Barsha area, marking the second Pakistani fatality in the United Arab Emirates since the outbreak of the Iran-US-Israel war .
The announcement was made by the Dubai Media Office on social media platform X, confirming that authorities responded to the incident where debris from an intercepted projectile struck a vehicle, resulting in the death of the driver . The statement did not specify the origin of the projectile or which military force was responsible for the interception .
Escalating Regional Conflict
The death occurred amid an intensification of the war that began on February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran. Tehran has since retaliated with waves of missiles and drones targeting US assets and bases across Gulf countries, including the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain .
The conflict has drawn in the entire region, with Israel simultaneously carrying out strikes in Lebanon against Iran-backed Hezbollah forces . The situation has raised fears of a wider war, rattling a region long considered a haven of stability .
Previous Pakistani Casualty
This incident follows the death of another Pakistani national on the very first day of the war. Mureed Zaman, son of Nazar Ali and a resident of the Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was killed in Abu Dhabi when debris fell on a residential area following the interception of missiles .
Zaman had been working in Abu Dhabi for nearly eight years, supporting his family back home through labour work and driving . Following his death, the UAE conveyed its “sincere condolences and deepest sympathies” to his family, stressing that “the targeting of civilians and civilian objects is unequivocally condemned and strictly prohibited under international law” .
Official Reaction from Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took to X to express his profound grief over the tragic loss of the two Pakistani nationals .
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of two Pakistani nationals in Dubai caused by missile debris,” the Prime Minister stated. He confirmed that Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in the UAE are in close contact with local authorities to provide all necessary assistance and facilitate the repatriation process for the deceased . “Our hearts go out to the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” he added .
A Region Under Pressure
The war has placed immense strain on Gulf nations. On the first day of the conflict alone, the UAE reported intercepting a massive salvo of 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones fired from Iran . While most were destroyed, falling debris caused material damage in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and led to civilian casualties .
Beyond the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain have also reported interceptions, injuries, and damage to infrastructure . The conflict has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, disrupted global aviation, and sent oil prices soaring .
