
Singer Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi turns 74
World-renowned singer, the uncrowned king of Saraiki and Punjabi music, Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, has seen 74 springs of life.
Attaullah Esakhelvi, who became known as Lala among his millions of fans, made Pakistan famous all over the world by singing more than 50,000 songs in seven different languages.
Born on August 19, 1951 in the Isakhel area of Punjab, Attaullah Khan Isakhelvi had a passion for singing since childhood.
His father’s disapproval drove him away from home at an early age, but this distance became the hallmark of Attaullah Khan’s art.
He started singing on Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur in 1972, and his voice created such magic that the following year he won the hearts of the public on PTV’s famous program Neelam Ghar and in a concert in his hometown of Mianwali.
Later, he recorded four folk albums in a single session for a company in Faisalabad, and when these albums were released in 1977, the voice of Attaullah Esakhelvi began to resonate everywhere, from the fields to the highways.
The song “Ae Thiva Mandri Da Thiva” gave Esa Khelvi mass popularity, while “Chan Kathaan Gazari Ai Raat Ve” took him to heights of fame that any artist can only dream of.
