Taiwan Raises Concerns Over Delayed Canada Trade Deal
Ottawa-Taipei Agreement Ready, Taiwan Says
Taiwan’s top representative in Canada, Harry Tseng, has expressed concern that the Liberal government may be intentionally delaying the signing of a trade agreement with Taipei to maintain its ties with China. Tseng, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada, told Radio-Canada that the trade co-operation framework agreement has been fully initialed and ready for final signatures since April.
“There are no negotiations left. Not only [is it] initialed — we have three versions of the text ready: English, French, and Mandarin,” Tseng said, emphasizing the deal is prepared after long-term collaboration and is “readily available” for signing.
