(Web News)Sydney Sweeney is opening up about the intense physical toll of filming her latest movie, Christy, a boxing drama based on the life of world champion Christy Martin.

The 27-year-old actress, known for her roles in Euphoria and Madame Web, admitted she sustained bruises and even a “crazy black eye” while training and shooting fight sequences for the film.

The biopic, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this week, required Sweeney to step into the ring to recreate some of Martin’s most memorable matches, including her legendary fight against Laila Ali.

“I was getting pummeled,” Sweeney told Vanity Fair. “They were holding ice packs to my face in between takes. I was getting knocked up. I had some gnarly bruises after that.”

Her “crazy black eye,” she explained, came from filming a particularly demanding sequence, where authenticity was key.

The actress said that she and her stunt team were committed to ensuring the boxing scenes looked as real as possible, even if that meant enduring some actual blows.

Filming was far from easy. Sweeney revealed she shot the boxing sequences “back to back to back in a single week.” She added, “I’d wrap after a 12-hour shoot, and then I’d go train for another two hours.

That whole week was grueling.” Despite the exhaustion, the actress said she felt proud to push her physical and mental limits to portray Martin’s journey.

Christy Martin, nicknamed “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” rose to fame in the 1990s and became one of the most successful female boxers in history.

Her story of resilience, triumph, and personal struggle is now being brought to the big screen with Sweeney in the lead role.

While her performance in Christy is already generating buzz, Sweeney has also been making headlines for another reason.

The actress recently faced backlash over a denim jeans ad campaign.

However, she was quick to shut down questions about the controversy while promoting her film. “I am there to support my movie and the people involved in making it,” she said firmly. “I’m not there to talk about jeans. The movie’s about Christy [Martin], and that’s what I’ll be there to talk about.”

The upcoming release marks another career milestone for Sweeney, who continues to establish herself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile young talents. From psychological thrillers to superhero films, and now a physically demanding sports drama, the actress is proving she can take on diverse and challenging roles. Sweeney’s Christy is set to hit theatres on November 7.
