Bollywood Icon Arijit Singh Announces Retirement from Playback Singing, Shifts Focus to Independent Music

New Delhi (Web Desk):
Popular Bollywood playback singer Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing, marking the end of a chapter that has shaped the soundscape of Indian cinema for over 15 years. The news, shared through a detailed message on his social media accounts, came as a surprise to millions of fans who have followed his career since his early rise in the 2000s.

In his New Year message, Arijit Singh confirmed that he will not be accepting any new playback singing assignments, calling the decision a personal milestone rather than a farewell. He expressed gratitude for the love and support he has received throughout his illustrious career.

“Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” he wrote.

While stepping away from playback singing, Arijit clarified that he is not leaving music entirely. He plans to continue creating music independently, describing his future work as an opportunity to experiment, learn, and produce songs outside the film industry.

“I have not stopped making music. I am only separating myself from playback singing. I will continue my journey as an independent artist,” he said, addressing fan concerns about a complete retirement.

The singer also noted that a few previously committed projects are still pending. As a result, some new songs may be released during the current year, but once those obligations are fulfilled, he will dedicate his efforts exclusively to independent music.

Arijit Singh’s decision has triggered a massive reaction on social media, with fans expressing shock, sadness, and gratitude for the voice that has become synonymous with modern Bollywood. Known for his soulful renditions, Arijit rose to iconic status after the release of Tum Hi Ho, and he went on to deliver numerous chart-topping songs in blockbuster films. His music has played a defining role in shaping the soundscape of contemporary Indian cinema.

At 38 years of age, Arijit’s announcement comes just days after the release of Maatrubhumi from Battle of Galwan, reminding fans that while his era of playback singing may be concluding, his musical journey is far from over.

Industry experts and fellow musicians have hailed his decision as a bold and introspective move, emphasizing that the singer’s focus on independent music could open new creative avenues for both him and the Indian music scene at large.

With a legacy spanning over a decade and a half, Arijit Singh leaves behind an indelible mark on Bollywood music, and fans are eagerly awaiting his next chapter as a free and independent artist.
