Iran Demands Compensation from UAE Over US Strikes Launched from Its Territory

UNITED NATIONS — Iran has formally demanded compensation from the United Arab Emirates, accusing it of enabling United States military strikes against Iranian territory in violation of international law, Iran’s UN Ambassador told the UN Secretary-General in a letter reported Thursday by Nournews.

In the letter, Amir Saeid Iravani stated that the UAE’s decision to allow its territory to be used for the strikes constituted “an internationally wrongful act that entailed state responsibility” . Tehran asserted that the UAE bears international responsibility to provide reparation, including compensation for all material and moral damages incurred .

Seven Complaints Submitted

This latest demand follows a series of seven complaints submitted by Iravani to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, protesting the “illegal use of regional countries’ airspace and territory” by the United States and Israel in operations against Iran . According to state-linked Press TV, Iravani detailed how Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait were used to facilitate these attacks .

Iravani urged these governments “to observe the principle of good neighbourliness and prevent the continued use of their territories against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” emphasizing that the exploitation of their soil and airspace in US-Israeli operations is “entirely evident” .

Details of February 28 Attack

In one of the letters, Iravani noted that on February 28, US forces launched an attack against Iran “in violation of the fundamental principles and rules of international law,” using the territory of regional states—including Jordan—to carry out the strikes . He added that US fighter jets stationed in these countries conducted aggressive operations against Iran’s southern provinces .

Regional Context

The demand comes amid escalating regional tensions following the US-Israeli joint offensive against Iran that began on February 28, which reportedly killed around 1,300 people, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei . Iran has since retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets .

On Wednesday, Iran also claimed responsibility for attacks on Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility in retaliation for an Israeli strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, the first attack on Iran’s gas industry in the conflict . US President Donald Trump subsequently threatened to destroy Iran’s South Pars field if Qatar were struck again .

No Immediate Response

There was no immediate comment from the UAE or other Gulf states named in Iran’s complaints regarding the compensation demand . The letters have been documented as official UN Security Council records .

Iranian officials have previously warned that countries in the region must block the use of their territory by Iran’s enemies if they want to remain safe from reprisal attacks .
