In a major intelligence-led operation, the Counter-Terrorism Department on Wednesday neutralized two highly wanted terrorists affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Tank district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
The operation highlights the ongoing counterterrorism efforts in Pakistan, particularly in regions bordering Afghanistan, which have seen a surge in militant activity.
Details of the Operation
The CTD received actionable intelligence about the presence of the terrorists in the area. Upon mobilization, a 40-minute gunfight ensued after the suspects opened fire on the CTD team.
- Terrorists Neutralized: Imdadullah and Tauqeer, members of the TTP Mushtaq group
- Weapons Recovered: 2 AK-47 rifles, 6 magazines, cartridges, and 2 bandoliers
- CTD Casualties: None reported
Terror Activities Linked to the Terrorists
The slain terrorists were involved in multiple high-profile attacks targeting law enforcement and civilians, including:
- IED attacks: Killing five police officers
- Kidnappings: Abduction of police personnel at Government Girls Middle School Rori
- Bombings: Police van attack resulting in two police deaths
- Targeted Killings: Head constable Aziz and constable Rehan
- Assaults: Attacks on a police mobile in Dera Tank and a judges’ convoy on Tank Road
The operation is seen as a significant blow to the TTP Mushtaq group, curbing their operational capacity in K-P.
Security Forces Commended
The Inspector General of K-P and Additional IG of the CTD praised the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams for the operation’s success.
“Our forces remain vigilant and are always prepared to ensure public safety. Such operations will continue to bring terrorists to justice,” officials stated.
Rising Terror Threats in Pakistan
Terrorism has notably increased in K-P and Balochistan in recent years, leading to heightened concerns over national security.
The federal government has highlighted the role of cross-border terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan, raising the issue on international platforms, including the United Nations Security Council.
Intensive operations by security forces along the Afghan border aim to neutralize threats and prevent infiltration of terrorist groups into Pakistani territory.
The elimination of Imdadullah and Tauqeer marks a significant success for Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Continued intelligence-based actions are critical in dismantling TTP networks and ensuring the safety of the public in high-risk regions.
