ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on Tuesday rejected the medical reports issued by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) regarding her brother’s health, insisting that the family does not accept the government’s position on his medical condition.
Her remarks came a day after PIMS confirmed that Imran Khan had undergone his fifth scheduled intravitreal eye injection as part of ongoing treatment for a retinal condition.
Family Rejects PIMS Findings
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Aleema Khan questioned the credibility of the medical reports released by PIMS.
“We reject any medical reports issued by PIMS regarding Imran’s health. The same institution has made questionable claims in the past, including stating that his vision had recovered significantly. However, when his lawyer later met him, Imran himself rejected those claims,” she said.
Aleema further alleged that the family was not officially informed about recent medical procedures and only learned about reports of another hospital visit through public statements.
According to her, reports indicated that Imran Khan was again taken to PIMS in the early hours of June 15, while the family became aware of the development through a social media post by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
Questions Raised Over Repeated Eye Injections
Aleema questioned why Imran Khan had required multiple injections for the same eye condition.
“A fundamental question remains unanswered: why does Imran require a fifth injection?” she asked.
She demanded that the former prime minister be examined and treated by independent medical specialists at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, describing it as an urgent priority.
The PTI leader’s sister maintained that only an independent medical evaluation could address concerns regarding his health and ongoing treatment.
Concerns Over Family Access
Aleema Khan also accused authorities of failing to implement court orders regarding family visits.
She stated that a full bench court order allows six family members to meet Imran Khan every Tuesday, but alleged that the order has largely been ignored over the past eight months.
According to her, her sister Uzma Khan has only been allowed to meet Imran on a few occasions, with the last reported meeting taking place on December 2, 2025.
“We reject the government’s continued use of isolation and deprivation as tools of pressure against Imran,” she said.
The family has demanded that all six designated family members be permitted to meet him in accordance with court directives.
Demand for Restoration of Jail Rights
Aleema also highlighted what she described as rights guaranteed under jail regulations.
According to her, Imran Khan is entitled to:
- Weekly telephone contact with his sons
- Regular meetings with family members and legal counsel
- Access to books, newspapers and television
- Proper medical treatment and routine health check-ups
- Prior notification to family members before any medical procedure
She urged authorities to immediately restore all lawful rights and ensure access to independent medical treatment in the presence of family members.
PIMS Confirms Ongoing Eye Treatment
PIMS has maintained that Imran Khan’s treatment follows standard medical protocols.
The hospital previously confirmed that he was diagnosed with Right Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) and has been receiving anti-VEGF intravitreal injections to improve vision and prevent further damage.
Medical reports issued earlier this year stated that his eyesight had shown significant improvement following treatment.
According to previous assessments, vision in his right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9, while his left eye remained normal with corrective glasses.
The latest injection marks the fifth dose administered as part of the treatment plan.
Previous Medical Developments
Imran Khan first underwent an eye procedure in January 2026 after doctors identified complications affecting his right eye.
Subsequent examinations by medical boards and ophthalmology specialists from PIMS indicated gradual improvement in his condition.
In February, a report submitted before the Supreme Court stated that Imran had informed officials his right eye was functioning at only 15 percent capacity at the time.
Following the report, the Supreme Court directed authorities to facilitate medical access and allow communication with his sons.
Meanwhile, his wife, Bushra Bibi, also underwent treatment for an eye condition earlier this year and later received surgery in April.
Imran Khan Remains in Adiala Jail
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi continue to remain incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The couple was sentenced in December 2025 in the Toshakhana-II case, while Imran also remains imprisoned in connection with the £190 million corruption reference and several pending legal proceedings related to the events of May 9, 2023.
The latest dispute over his medical treatment is expected to further intensify tensions between PTI and the government, with party leaders continuing to demand independent medical examinations and full implementation of court-ordered visitation rights.
