Pakistan’s security forces successfully intercepted two rudimentary drones operated by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) near Rawalpindi on Friday, using electronic countermeasures, the information ministry confirmed. No military or other infrastructure was damaged, with only minor debris fall reported.
Incident Details:
Security sources stated that the drones were detected at two locations adjacent to Rawalpindi and were neutralized before causing any harm. There were no casualties or property damage. Precautionary airspace restrictions imposed at Islamabad International Airport were later lifted, restoring normal flight operations. The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) clarified that earlier speculation about airport closure was “baseless,” urging the public to rely on official sources.
Afghan Taliban’s Claim Rejected:
The Afghan Taliban regime’s Urdu X account had claimed to have targeted a military center in the federal capital. The information ministry strongly rubbished the allegation, stating: “Two rudimentary drones of terrorist FAK, nurtured by Afghan Taliban regime, were successfully intercepted… The Taliban regime claim includes no verifiable evidence as always, however fully exposes its established role as master proxy of terrorism harbouring and supporting multiple terrorist organisations such as Indian proxies.” The ministry added that the account is “known to regularly proliferate fake news and propaganda.”
Drone Incident in Kohat:
Separately in Kohat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, a suspicious drone was neutralized by a specialized police team using an anti-drone jamming system, forcing it to crash. Two individuals sustained minor injuries from falling debris and were provided medical treatment. Special Assistant to the CM on Information Shafi Jan commended the effective use of modern technology by law enforcement, reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace. He also highlighted the recent approval of a Rs31 billion package to strengthen police capacity, with over Rs7 billion already spent on modern weapons and anti-drone systems.
Condemnation of Lakki Marwat Attack:
Jan also condemned a recent bombing near a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat, stating that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had sought a report from the Inspector General of Police. He expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs, assuring them they would not be left alone.
