Nora Fatehi Faces Fatwa in Uttar Pradesh Over ‘Sarke Chunar’ Song, Government Bans Track

Bollywood star Nora Fatehi has landed at the center of a major controversy in Uttar Pradesh after a fatwa was issued against her over the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke.”

The track, featured in the upcoming film KD: The Devil, has drawn criticism from religious leaders who labeled its visuals and lyrics as “vulgar” and “un-Islamic.” The fatwa was issued by a Muslim religious body in Aligarh, intensifying debate across the country.

Amid growing backlash, India’s central government stepped in and banned the song. Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the move in parliament following public complaints and political pressure.

The controversy quickly escalated, with calls for legal action and demands to remove the track from digital platforms. Critics argue that the content crosses cultural and religious boundaries, while others see the move as a blow to artistic freedom.

The song features Nora Fatehi alongside Bollywood veteran Sanjay Dutt, with music composed by Arjun Janya and vocals by Mangli. The film also stars Dhruva Sarja and Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and is set for release on April 30, 2026.

Responding to the backlash, Nora Fatehi clarified that the song was filmed three years ago and that she trusted the production team regarding the lyrics. She also mentioned that she did not initially understand the Kannada language and only realized the controversial nature of the Hindi translation later.

The situation has sparked a wider debate in India over censorship, religious sensitivities, and the limits of creative expression in cinema.

As the release of KD: The Devil approaches, the controversy shows no signs of slowing down—keeping the spotlight firmly on Nora Fatehi and the film.
