KARACHI – Former Sindh governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Saturday announced that he was organizing a comprehensive conference on the future of Sindh, similar to the one he had held while in office for Karachi and its development issues. The announcement came during his visit to the headquarters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), where Tessori was warmly received by the party’s top leadership and a large number of workers who welcomed him back into the party fold.
During his visit, Tessori was received by MQM-P chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and other senior leaders. Later, in a meeting with party leaders, he presented a three-and-a-half-year performance report to the chairman and the central committee. Senior party leaders, including Dr. Farooq Sattar, Syed Amin Ul Haque, and Furqan Atib, as well as members of national and provincial assemblies, were also present.
A Warm Welcome
Speaking to the media and addressing workers, Tessori highlighted the technology-driven initiatives and public service projects introduced during his tenure as governor. He said that when public support exists, official positions become secondary, and pledged to continue serving the people directly.
He referred to several welfare measures undertaken during his governorship, including the distribution of laptops, motorcycles, and other community-oriented initiatives across all districts of Sindh, catering to people of diverse linguistic backgrounds.
“I am thankful to Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui for the warm reception and other leaders and workers. We have plans to organize a comprehensive conference on the future of Sindh similar to our initiative on Karachi’s development,” he added.
The Conference on Sindh’s Future
Tessori’s announcement of a comprehensive conference on the future of Sindh signals his intention to remain politically active and engaged on provincial issues. His earlier conference on Karachi’s development, held during his governorship, was seen as an effort to address the city’s long-standing infrastructure, governance, and public service challenges.
The proposed Sindh conference is expected to bring together stakeholders from across the province to discuss development priorities, governance reforms, and public welfare initiatives.
A Political Homecoming
Tessori’s return to MQM-P marks a political homecoming for the former governor. He had previously been associated with the party before his appointment as Sindh governor, a position he held until the completion of his term.
His reception at the party headquarters—attended by the top leadership and a large number of workers—suggests that the party views his return as a positive development. Tessori’s governance experience and his network within Sindh’s business and civil society circles could strengthen the party’s position in the province.
The MQM-P’s Position in Sindh
MQM-P has been a significant political force in urban Sindh, particularly in Karachi and Hyderabad. The party has traditionally focused on the rights of Urdu-speaking communities, urban development, and issues related to governance and public services in the province’s major cities.
Tessori’s return could help the party broaden its appeal and expand its reach into new constituencies. His emphasis on technology-driven initiatives and public service projects aligns with the party’s focus on urban development and governance reform.
Looking Ahead
With Tessori back in the MQM-P fold, and with plans for a major conference on Sindh’s future, the party appears to be positioning itself for the next electoral cycle. The conference could serve as a platform to present the party’s vision for the province and to mobilize support among voters frustrated with governance failures and service delivery gaps.
For Tessori, the return to his political home offers an opportunity to build on the initiatives he launched as governor and to continue serving the people of Sindh—this time from within a party structure rather than from the governor’s office.
