Punjab Govt shifts journalists’ colony Phase-II to Charbagh J Block, Master Plan unchanged

LAHORE: In a major step to provide housing for media professionals, the Punjab Government has decided to relocate Journalists’ Colony Phase-II from Katar Band Road to J Block of the Charbagh Housing Scheme. The project will be executed under the previously approved master plan.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting at the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), jointly chaired by RUDA CEO Imran Amin and Secretary Information Punjab Tahir Raza Hamdani. The meeting reviewed progress on the relocation and chalked out the roadmap for timely completion.

Attendees included Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari, General Secretary Afzal Talib, PJHF Deputy Managing Director Adnan Rashid, Assistant Director Administration Asad Hussain, RUDA Director PR Colonel Abid Latif, and other senior officials.

It was agreed that the Punjab Journalists Housing Foundation (PJHF) will immediately submit the list of eligible journalists for Phase-II plots to RUDA. Following this, RUDA will issue formal allotment/intimation letters so that further stages of the project can move forward without delay.

Officials confirmed that the Charbagh J Block project will follow the original master plan. Advance payments and installment schedules will remain the same as per the initial agreement. Development charges will be collected directly by RUDA, while all rules applicable to Journalists’ Colony Phase-II will continue to apply to eligible allottees.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani thanked RUDA CEO Imran Amin and credited the initiative to the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide housing for journalists. He expressed confidence that RUDA will complete development work and hand over plot possession within the given timeframe.

Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari thanked the Chief Minister, Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Secretary Information, and RUDA CEO for fulfilling the government’s commitment to journalists. He said relocating the colony to the prime Charbagh location reflects the Punjab Government’s focus on journalist welfare, and congratulated all journalists included in Phase-II.
