Sunnyvale, Calif. – Sunnyvale police have announced the arrest of two men in connection with the brutal murder of Kembery Chirinos-Flores, a 24-year-old mother from Mountain View who was found shot to death in her car in early January, bringing a measure of closure to a case that has haunted the community for two months.
At a press conference, Chief of Public Safety Dan Pistor detailed the breakthrough in the case, expressing sympathy for the victim’s family while confirming that justice may be at hand.
“I can only imagine the profound pain and grief Kembery’s family is experiencing during this difficult time,” Pistor said. “Kembery was in the prime of her life. She was working two jobs to make ends meet and she was a loving mother of a five year old son. Today I’m pleased to announce that we’ve made two arrests in connection with this homicide.”
The Crime
According to police, Chirinos-Flores was inside her car near a mobile home community on Vienna Drive in Sunnyvale when she was shot multiple times with a shotgun. She was later found dead at the scene, but investigators were initially unable to locate the suspects.
The Arrests
The breakthrough came on Thursday, March 5, when a coordinated multi-agency operation was launched.
“On Thursday, March 5, we conducted a coordinated operation which spanned two counties and involved multiple law enforcement agencies,” Pistor explained. “Both suspects were taken into custody by our detectives and the Sunnyvale SWAT team without incident.”
The suspects, identified as a man from Hollister and a man from Sunnyvale, have been booked on murder charges. Police confirmed that both individuals have criminal histories. One of the suspects, who is said to have had a prior relationship with Chirinos-Flores, had a previous domestic violence charge stemming from another relationship.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to build their case.
