Oakland, Calif. – A middle school teacher has been identified as one of the two victims killed in a mass shooting at a downtown Oakland bar early Saturday morning, casting a pall of grief over the San Pablo school community.
The victim, Latetia Bobo, 33, was an 8th grade English language arts teacher at Beta Academy, a charter school in San Pablo, according to Caliber Public Schools, the network that operates the school.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. inside EZ’s Lounge, located at 412 14th Street, the Oakland Police Officers Association confirmed. A 25-year-old man was also killed in the attack, and five other people sustained injuries.
‘Her Presence Brought Light’
In an emotional statement, the school paid tribute to their beloved colleague.
“Her presence brought light to our campus, and she will be deeply missed by all of us,” the statement read. “We know that Ms. Bobo touched many lives, and we will continue to honor her legacy through the love, compassion, and dedication she showed every day.”
On Sunday, a simple memorial appeared outside the bar: a bouquet of roses left in remembrance of the lives lost.
Investigation Ongoing
As of Sunday evening, authorities had not released the name of the second deceased victim, a 25-year-old man. Police have not announced any arrests or provided details on a possible motive in the shooting, which left five others wounded.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Oakland Police Department.
